After 20 days of voting and 335 online votes cast, K&B Tattoo at 140 South Main Street once again emerged as the winner of the 2nd Annual Hightstown Holiday Storefront and Window Decorating Contest.

While K&B Tattoo took first place with 119 votes, Pretty Nails (in collaboration with Better Beginnings) at 108 Mercer Street came in 2nd with 84 votes and The Slowdown Cafe, at 110 Mercer Street, took 3rd place with 43 votes.

As winners, K&B receive a month’s promotion on our website, a certificate of recognition and 1 year possession of the coveted Hightstown Holiday Cheer Chalice.

In a gesture of holiday spirit and giving, K&B representative Joe “Mac” McEneaney, after receiving the trophy, handed it to Better Beginnings representative Betty Witherspoon and said, “Although it’s great to win this cherished award for 2 years straight I felt that the Better Beginnings kids, along with their teachers, took some thought and time to cut and paste and paint their display. And what can be more Christmas than the Nativity itself? So to give the trophy to Betty and all the kids was so worth the smile that those kids will have. Almost as much as I felt when I received the Mayors Shining Star. I was informed that the kids paraded it through the classrooms as if it was the Stanley Cup. And a Child’s smile is worth more than the award. And so I did what we try to teach them. We shared.”

K&B Tattoo was announced as the winner at an event held at “The Point” in the middle of Hightstown’s downtown business district that featured live holiday music by the Dan Trent Guitar Studio, free coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider and pastries donated by The Slowdown Café, and cookies supplied by K&B Tattoo. Resident John Walsh donated the use of his speaker system and his expertise in setting it up. Neil Schloss of Castle Consulting supplied power to the lighting and PA system, as well as the use of his building as a staging area for the event. There was also an appearance by Santa, who brought gifts for old and young alike. The Hightstown police department was on the scene as well to ensure that all attendees remained safe.
