SPECIALTY FOOD VENDORS INVITED TO SUMMER FARMERS’ MARKET

Do you (or someone you know) produce fresh foods that need a marketplace? This summer, Hightstown’s 3rd annual Farmers’ Market by the Lake hopes to offer more locally-produced foods, including specialty breads, honey, eggs, cheeses, wine, produce, meat, seafood, etc. The weekly market runs on Fridays from June through September, offering local residents and visitors an exciting array of fresh, locally-grown organic produce, baked goods, and unique treats. Live music and a beautiful lakeside setting create a fun, festive market atmosphere… all that’s missing is you! Prospective vendors may contact Tom Muza at tmuza@mccarter.org to apply. Please spread the word, and help make this year’s market the best yet!

We also want to thank all our loyal supporters who came out week after week to support your New Jersey local farmers. I have seen some other local town farmers’ markets struggle to keep the markets open; due to a lack of community support, vendors have asked councils to waive table fees, not shown up on a regular basis, etc. and eventually the markets failed. I want to commend Hightstown for what I see as a town that supports the town. Other towns are talking about the Hightstown Farmers’ Market – they are coming to shop, getting ideas and even opening their own farmers’ markets. It’s great to know the Mendies Family Farm can be a part of this great trend of bringing fresh local food to the local community. I hope our customers were happy with our services and look forward for another opportunity to be your local organic farmer.”

farm marketIn 2009, in conjunction with the Hightstown Parks and Recreations Committee, DTHT organized the first farmers market at Memorial Park in the downtown. This weekly event, held on Friday nights from 3-7 pm, slowly grew in popularity as the summer progressed, culminating with a final week visitor count of over 400 people. Farmers and patrons alike enjoyed the market, and the only complaint was that it should have lasted longer. This event will hopefully become a long-standing Hightstown tradition.
